Phase13; first sulfur-recovery unit starts up

ASSALUYEH – the first sulfur recovery unit of phase13 was put into operation in order to prevent the burning of acid gases by the flares.

Phase 13's director, Payyam Motamed, stated that sulfur recovery unit is one of the significant environmental units in refinery design which was set up with gas sweetening trains. At present, acid gas from the first two sweetening trains, 25 tons per hour at a concentration of 20 % hydrogen sulfide, is transferred to unit 108 (sulfur recovery unit).

According to Motamed, the sulfur from this unit plays a crucial role in removing harmful effects and reducing air pollution. Moreover, the production capacity of sulfur in this refinery increases at a maximum of 400 tons a day.

Phase13 has been designed to produce 56 million cubic meters of sour gas, 50 million cubic meters of methane, 2900 tons of liquefied gas and 400 tons of sulfur a day.
